Colorado Counties - Jail Mugshots and Inmate Records

Colorado has 64 counties. Each county operates a jail and maintains booking records. The county sheriff is the custodian of these records. You can search for inmates and request mugshots from each sheriff's office. Some counties have online search tools. Others require phone or in-person requests.

The Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act applies to all counties. Under C.R.S. § 24-72-301, booking photos are public records. You have the right to inspect and copy them. Each county may have different procedures. Some charge fees for copies. You must sign a statement that you will not use the records for commercial gain. Statewide Resources

In addition to county resources, several state agencies provide inmate information. The Colorado Department of Corrections has a statewide inmate locator for state prisoners. This does not include county jail inmates. VINELink provides custody status across participating agencies. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation offers criminal history checks.
